STARTING TECHNIQUE

Whatever foot they jump off of should be the front leg.  In most cases, right-handed people have their left leg forward and left-handed people have their right leg forward.  The front knee should be bent to about 100 degrees and the back knee should be bent to about 130 degrees.

Your arms should be in normal running position balancing out the legs.  Do not bend at the waist and keep your chest pointing forwards.

If you are starting on a curve, point your feet towards the apex of the curve.

If you have multiple people in your lane, take off and make sure that you get out in front.  Do not let the other runners block you in and determine your race.

RUNNING FORM

Do not run on the balls of your feet the entire race.  Use a mid-foot strike that rolls to the ball of your foot.  Make sure that your foot strike happens underneath your hip so you do not put the brakes on.

If your arms start to tighten up, shake them out to release the lactic acid.

During your "kick", sprint with proper sprint form.
